The St. Charles Health System in central Oregon has built its reputation on compassionate care and clinical excellence. Through extensive outreach efforts, its laboratories process approximately 2 million clinical chemistry and immunoassay tests annually over four sites. Volume continues to grow. According to Julie Sieber, Chemistry Supervisor of the St. Charles Bend location, “With the previous instruments, we were repeating so many tests due to false, erratic results.” So when Lyle Oberto, Supervisor of Chemistry, took on the challenge of boosting the efficiency and value of her lab, she identified a major opportunity centered on quality control. If existing QC protocols could be replaced by something more proactive and more efficient, the results could be significant both internally and externally. Roche Middleware was there to help.
